Dunrovin Ranch

Dunrovin
Ranch is a boarding, teaching, and PMU rescue and placement facility located in
New River, Arizona. Placed in the Sonoran Desert, thirty-five miles northeast of
Phoenix, close to Anthem, Desert Hills and Cave Creek, Dunrovin Ranch is an
ideal location for boarding. Just a few minutes ride from the Tonto National
Forest and thousands of acres of Arizona state land, it is an exceptional
facility for riding. With the family of staff and caretakers, their gentle
philosophy toward training and treatment, and their vast experience and
knowledge, it is a facility where both you and your horse will be comfortable
and well cared for.
Facilities and Services
On
the facility are three round pens, two mare motels with eight stalls in each
motel, several stand-alone stalls and ample, fenced turn-out areas. Each horse,
and his/her individual needs are tended to with loving care. There are three feedings per day, one at 7:30AM, one at 2:30PM and
one at 9:30PM. Staff lives on-site so special supplements or meds can be
administered as needed. All horses are turned out regularly as their social
abilities allow. Stalls are cleaned at least once daily, often twice per day.
History
Dunrovin
Ranch was a dream conceived in 1993 with the purchase of land in New River,
Arizona. The ranch began its construction with an
eight-stall mare motel. By the time it was built, it was already too small for
the number of horses Susan and Jamie Thompson, owners, had acquired.
In 2002, Dunrovin Ranch changed from a home to four horses to
a home for twelve almost
overnight, with the discovery of PMU foals needing homes. Susan and Jamie,
originally planning to adopt only one PMU foal, were touched by the need for
homes for these beautiful horses, otherwise destined for feed lots. Three foals
were adopted, and two months later, two pregnant PMU mares were added to the
herd. Thus the Dreamchaser PMU Rescue and Re-teaching Facility was born.
Since
that time, another eight-stall motel has been added as well as three round pens,
several large, fenced, turn-out areas and a number of stand-alone stalls.

Dreamchaser
PMU is located in a remote area, off the New River Road, just north of Anthem
off I17. The staff would be happy to meet
you at an easy-to-find location and guide you in for a tour. If you would like
to drive by and have a look for yourself before you have a guided tour, the
directions are as follows:
From Interstate 17
From I17 North, take the New River exit and turn
right from the off ramp. From I17 South, take the same exit and turn left. Go to
the stop sign and turn left on to the I17 Frontage Road. Go just a short
distance and take the right at the Roadrunner
Restaurant on to New River Road. Proceed up New River Road just over three miles
and go left on to Fig Springs Road (third left after a sweeping, well-marked
curve to the left). Go just a short distance down Fig Springs Road and turn
right on to Wolf Trap Road, the dirt road just after the first cluster of
mailboxes. Though you may think so, you are probably not lost.
This is a gravel road that goes through several washes. Be
smart during times of heavy rain. After about two-tenths of a mile, follow
the jog
in the road to the left. After this jog, you will see the red
roof of our barn and office off to your left. Take the next fork to the left and
follow the road. The facility is on your right, but do not take the first road
to the right before the steel fence and the barn and office. Go by the facility
and take the right turn that is after it. If you miss the turn, the road
dead-ends.
From Carefree Highway:
Take
7th Street, which becomes New River Road for a total of approximately eight
miles and take a right on to
Fig Springs Road. Go just a short distance down Fig Springs Road
and turn right on to
Wolf Trap Road, the dirt road just
