The Premarin® Story

The
drug, Premarin®, used as a hormone replacement therapy aid for women is derived
from chemicals found in the Urine of pregnant mares. There exists an entire
industry; enormous farms where mares are kept constantly pregnant to harvest
their urine for this purpose. For more information visit
http://www.premarin.org/. These mares and the resulting foals are disposed
of when they are no longer necessary to the process; sent to auctions where only
the lucky few are purchased by other than those that will use them for animal
feed or for human consumption. Dreamchaser PMU Rescue at Dunrovin Ranch in New
River, Arizona is part of a
network of facilities that save these beautiful
animals from certain death and place them in forever homes through adoption. With the family of staff and caretakers, their
gentle philosophy toward training and treatment, and their vast experience and
knowledge, these discarded animals are cared for, gentled and comfortably
trained to become valuable members of equine society and perfect members of your
family.
Dreamchaser PMU works in concert with
other PMU rescue facilities bringing foals and
older horses from PMU facilities in Canada. PMU foals and older horses are unique in that they have had from absolutely no
handling to minimal handling, and they need special treatment and understanding,
time and patience to begin to trust the human animal.
Our goal for Dunrovin is to
continue to rescue and place PMUs, and to be available to assist those who also
save PMU’s from potential slaughter. These fine animals deserve a chance at an
enjoyable life.
Dreamchaser PMU currently has over 42 PMUs
available for adoption, varying in age from 7 months to 14 years. Neither
the mares nor the Percheron stallion we adopted are trained as riding horses.
Our intention is to teach these horses ourselves, using patience, gentleness and
horsmanship, and utilize them as trail riding horses, perhaps in programs for
underprivileged, emotionally needy, abused, and neglected children. We envision
being able, with help and funding, to bring these children to Dreamchaser PMU to
experience the joys of horses and the beauty of our surrounding desert.
A horse can
touch a child in ways no human can. There is unconditional love, trust, peace,
and hope to be shared between those who open their hands and hearts.
